Immersion

6 Mar 2015

I used the stones to cross the stream

Between the stones, the water sang

Its lilting rippled in my ears

The bubbling through my senses rang

And for a moment time stood still

The murmuring, burbling filled my brain

And swept me, blissful, to the shore

And I returned to earth again

Kaleidoscope

25 May 2015

As I walked out, the cooling breeze

And hot sun burning at my back

Reminded me, in suburb's streets

Of mountain walks in countries far

Transported to another world

My mind turned inwards and it saw

A bend in the road where it had been

So many times by willows green

A little further on and now

Another street, another town

A memory from here or there

Reflected in the light or air

A lifetime lived in countries far

Relived in Seoul, in suburb streets

With hot sun burning at my back

And on my neck, a cooling breeze

A Rose in December

18 Dec 2016

There's a mist hanging over the mountain,

And the tumbling leaves fall down.

The trunks of the trees are black with damp,

And the lights of the cars pass rank on rank,

And Winter's doing his rounds.

The fires of Autumn are fading,

Her glory is turning to grey.

Winter sweeps up her leaves from under his feet,

And packs up her bags by the side of the street,

As she quietly slips away.

He'll stalk the streets with his lantern,

And freeze your bones with his glare.

He'll blow up a gale with his whistle and fife,

And slice through your cheeks with a barber's knife,

Walk with him if you dare!

He'll breathe on the gardens and alleys

Till everything freezes hard

And rarely a cranny escapes his cruel eyes

For he pierces with frost every plant that he spies

In the shelter of the yard

But under the wall like a promise

Autumn draped her cloak as she fled

And Winter saw not as he passed that way

How a rose in December had bloomed that day

With a single bud of red

The Rain

16 Feb 2015

My life pours gently down

In grey monotony

From skies implacable as the teardrops

Which do not leave my eyes

And dripping from branches

In pearls which I cannot hold

Quietly it penetrates the threadbare earth

The yellow dullness of my wasted hours

And seeps into my very soul

Ah, from what seeds does Joy awake?

For Spring Will Come

ROSE IN DECEMBER

RAIN
IT JUST SNOWED
It just snowed

18 Nov 2013

It just snowed in Seoul

from white cold air and softly

it just snowed

Then swirling and dark

white flakes and fall

leaves thrown around

And sun breaks out and

blue sky, clouds recede

Did it just snow?
